Our Chess Coaches

From the survey we conducted (refer to About Us) , what our customers like about our chess coaches:

1. 20 years of experience in coaching chess, not experience in playing chess. It takes coaching experience to understand students in their chess learning. Kids are far more complex than just chess pieces.
 
2. We are full time chess coaches. We handle chess lesson ourselves to ensure quality in coaching. You want the chess master to coach your kids himself, right?
 
3. Both Coach Loo and Coach Tan are strong chess players with a master title. They reached highest FIDE (World Chess Federation) rating at 2162.  Chess instructor with both criteria is not easy to find in Penang.
 
4. Both of them won 1st and 2nd in national individual chess tournament (not team or junior event). That makes them able to coach your child even when they improve to become advanced player.

Arena Grand Master Loo Swee Leong

  • Arena Grand Master (AGM obtained in 2017)
  • Certified FIDE(World Chess Federation) Instructor (2012)
  • Best performance in international event: 4th in Penang Chess Open 2009.
  • Best performance in national event: 2nd Placing in Malaysia Interstate Chess Championship 2009.
  • Highest FIDE rating 2162
  • Coaching since 2001.
  • Patient to guide, my youngest student to date is 2 years old.
  • I am a balanced chess player. That makes me the perfect coach to build a good fundamental for a strong student.

National Master Tan Khai Boon

  • National Master (NM )  won in 2010, when he became National Champion in National Closed Championship.
  • Best performance in national event: Champion in Malaysia Interstate Chess Championship 2009.
  • Represent Malaysia in 39th Chess Olympiad in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia.
  • Defeated 2 GM(Grandmaster, highest title a chess player can attain,rating above 2500)
  • Highest FIDE rating at 2160.
  • Coaching since 2001.
  • I am a strong chess master and capable to coach advanced students. My strength is in chess strategy. I am able to explain chess positions to students within a short time.
