Chess is a game of war between the White Army and the Black Army.
1) Chess Pieces
2) Chess Board
- This is a chess board, a battle field where the White Army and Black Army battle against each other.
- It is made up of Light Squares and Dark Squares.
- The board must always be turned so there's a light square at the bottom right hand corner. (remember light on right)
- It has 8 files(remember vertical "file" cabinet) and 8 ranks(rank is row).
- Each file has a letter from a to h, starting from the left.
- Each rank has a number from 1 to 8, starting from the bottom.
3) Chess Board Setup
- Put the Rooks on the corner.
- Put the Knights next to the Rooks.
- Put the Bishops next to the Knights.
- Put the King and the Queen next to the Bishops. The Queens start on their own colour squares. (ps: the dress matches the shoes.)
- Put the Pawns in front of these pieces. The setup is completed.
4) General Rules About Chess Pieces
- Chess piece moves along the lines (file, rank and diagonal)
- You can capture an enemy piece by moving onto its square and taking it off the board.
- You can’t capture your own piece e.g capture your Rook with your Knight.
- All the chess pieces cannot jump over another chess piece except Knight.
- All the chess pieces capture as the way they move except Pawn.
- All the chess pieces can move backward except Pawn.
- Both sides take turns to make their move.
Mini game 1: Pawn
- Setup the game with the Pawns only.
- The side which success to promote a Pawn to a Queen wins.
